Pokémon Go is an upcoming augmented reality smartphone game developed and released by Niantic in conjunction with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android. Part of the legendary Pokémon series, the game is an interactive spin-off of the anime television series.
Players of the game can trade virtual currency, fight against other players, earn gym upgrades, and purchase items to help them on their journey to defeat the foe known as Gengarna. Players can also find other applications such as a dictionary, transportation services, and other services which can be used in the game.
Unlike the previous games of the series, players will need to have a compatible smartphone device in order to participate in the game. The smartphone must have an accepting Google Play app in order to access the in-game services. Players can sign up for a free Google account which will grant them access to all Google Play app features once they have signed up. They can then begin playing the game on the go, playing with friends or competing with others who have a Google account.
One of the major features of this game that sets it apart from the others is the application of its mechanics to real life situations. Players can use the Pokedex, a device that keeps track of all the Pokedex ‘camellia’ that show up across the globe, to check up on their Cures.
Cures are the unique Pokémon that can be discovered by players and are broken down into two categories: battle/faction and Pokémon/ball. When a player is defeated, they may opt to rest, which will drop one or more Pokémon (depending on the nature of the battle) from their team, or they can throw a ball, which will catch a particular Pokémon depending on the throw.
Variety of Cards
Players can also purchase a variety of cards that unlock special features in the game such as wild Pokémon that can be caught by catching them. There is also a feature where the player can see the total experience points earned by their pokes as well as how many other trainers they’ve had in the game. All of these features are customizable. The graphics are cartoon like and really put the players into the game.
This game can be played on an iPhone or Android phone depending on preference. It can also be played on tablets such as the iPad or the Kindle Fire as well. Players can socialize in real-life through friends and family who can join in the fun online as well. Players can also compete against each other on the leader board in the game which is where the virtual Pokedex shows up. There is even a versus battle option that gives you a good chance to really show off your skills.
The game is very easy to pick up and is extremely fun for those who do not have much knowledge about the subject matter. It may take some time before one gets a feel for the different buttons and functions on the go. However, once that happens players will get hooked on playing the game time again. The graphics and the simple interface is attractive to any potential customers.
While it is not the greatest money maker, it is still a great time pass if that is what a person is looking for. The paid version has a lot more going for it in terms of extras and benefits that can help the players. The free version may just be a great way to introduce someone to this wonderful and fun pastime that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their age.
It should be noted that a lot of people do not like to spend money to buy something they like. This could be seen with the Pokémon series of games. Most of the older versions were not very successful and this was partly because of the hardcore gamer audience that did not like paying the money to buy the game.
Pokémon cards are also expensive, they are not fun to collect. With that being said, there is no doubt that Pokemon Go is going to be a big hit and we can expect a lot of great things to come out in the future. It will be interesting to see where the company goes from here as it expands into other platforms.
